Intimidation Policy

AIUB Hindu Society — Safe Space Commitment

One of AHS's top priorities is to safeguard a healthy environment for its community. AHS is committed to the values of civility, equity, respect, non-discrimination and an appreciation of diversity. It is imperative that situations of discrimination, intimidation, harassment, and assault stop as soon as possible and that we prevent those from happening again. This policy addresses ways to prevent harassment, as well as where to find support and redress when harassment occurs.

Definitions

Discrimination

The act of making distinctions between human beings based on the groups, classes, or other categories to which they are perceived to belong.

Intimidation

Intentional behavior that "would cause a person of ordinary sensibilities" to fear injury or harm.

Harassment

All forms of repeated or ongoing unwelcome and distressing conduct, including but not limited to sexual harassment, psychological harassment, or harassment based on a ground prohibited by law.

Assault

The act of inflicting physical harm or unwanted physical contact upon a person or, in some specific legal definitions, a threat or attempt to commit such an action.

What should I do if I think I am a victim?

What if I am harassed by a student?

If you are being discriminated against, intimidated, harassed, or assaulted by an AIUB student who is not related to the club — speak directly to the person, identify the behavior, and ask them to stop. If this does not work, file an official complaint with OSA against the student.

What if I am harassed by a club member?

File an oral or official complaint with the President. The President will formally warn the member. If the incident recurs after the warning, inform the President again with evidence. The President will take further action and, if necessary, notify OSA.

What if I am harassed by an alumni member?

File an oral or official complaint with the President. The President will consult with advisors and formally warn the alumni member. If the incident recurs, inform the President with evidence. The President will take further action and, if necessary, notify OSA.

What happens if someone is proven guilty?

If a club member or alumni member is proven guilty, the club authority will ensure the following consequences:

If the person is a non-club AIUB student, action will be taken according to AIUB's own policy.

Conclusion

It is the duty of all members to uphold this policy. This is a serious matter and will be handled with strict zero-tolerance. Once a member has been proven guilty and banned, all ties with that individual are severed, and the club holds no further responsibility regarding their actions.
